Hi, I’m Michele. I’ve never called myself a film buff. Film enthusiast, maybe. Then again, I’m not sure an enthusiast would make it her life’s ambition to watch every single film in the Criterion Collection.

Through unqualified reviews and interpretive illustration, this is where I’m documenting that goal. I plan to keep everything PG-13 and spoiler free.  Let’s see: with almost a thousand listed titles and growing, I calculate that it’ll take me about…thirty years minimum? Bring out the popcorn!

When I’m not watching movies or setting impossible goals, I’m an illustrator and designer based out of Brooklyn. I also drink tea, and play trivia enthusiastically but poorly.

  1. Hi Michele,

I stumbled across this blog and you appear to share my love for the Criterion collection. It appears you want to plod through this journey alone, but if you’d like someone else to write for the blog, I’d love to help!

Thanks for doing something super cool

    1. Hey Alex,

Thanks so much for stopping by! I’m not really looking for contributors at the moment since it’s more of a personal project, but if I ever do I’ll keep you in mind. It’s always nice to meet fellow Criterion enthusiasts.

  2. Hey Michele! Loving the blog, and loving the illustrations. The Criterion Collection is amazing. Keep up the good work 🙂 .

  3. Hello Michele, I just found your blog this morning while browsing thru comments on the Criterion Contraption. I’m also on a Criterion quest of my own, watching them all in chronological order! I started in January 2009 and I’m now up to the films of 1958. I’m also writing a weekly column on the Eclipse Series for CriterionCast.com. I really enjoy your illustrations and comments, from what I’ve seen so far! Always nice to find someone else who’s been bitten by the same bug! 🙂

    1. Hi Dave,

Thanks for stopping by! I can’t believe I haven’t come across your site yet. I love that you’re tackling the films chronologically, and I also love that you include the theatrical posters. As you say, it’s always nice to meet someone with the same crazy goal! Keep it up, and I’ll try to do the same.

  4. Just discovered you through Criterion Cast. What a great blog! And you’d already linked to me…so I am embarrassed to have discovered you so late. You’re in the Criterion Confessions sidebar now, too. 🙂

    1. Hi Jamie,

Thanks a lot! When I first started the blog, I looked all over for people doing the same thing. But I think I’ve yet to comment on your site, so no need to feel embarrassed. You definitely have a great blog yourself! I’m glad that we can be mutual link buddies. 🙂

  5. Love your artwork. Would you be willing to send large format sizes so I could print one out. How much would that cost?

  6. Hello Michele,

Just discovered your blog today! I’m also reviewing Criterion films, but unlike you, I’m still working my way through the beginning of the list.

    Cheers!

    1. Hi James,

Thanks for stopping by, and welcome to the Criterion club! I’ve added you to the sidebar here. Good luck going through them in order. I usually just watch whatever strikes my fancy, so my reviews are all over the place.

    1. Thank you so much! I’ve considered offering some limited prints, so the information for that would go on the blog if it happens. Is there any particular title you’d like to see?

    1. That’s so sweet of you, thank you! I’ve accepted the award in my heart, although I’m not sure I’m going to go through the full nominating process. Thanks again!

  7. i just stumbled upon this blog while looking for images from Solaris. I have to say, I’m really glad I did! I also follow the Criterion Collection and your artwork is excellent. I look forward to seeing more.

  8. Nice to have stumbled on your site thanks to the Criterioncast link. I’m undertaking a similar project of my own, slightly different, which I’m finding to be both exhilarating and taxing, but a labor of love. Love the artwork too!

    1. Hi there, and thanks. It’s always nice to meet fellow enthusiasts. I’m surprised I haven’t come across your site yet, but I’ve added you to the sidebar. Good luck with your own labor of love, and thanks for stopping by!
