131. Closely Watched Trains

It’s WWII and the resistance is struggling against the Nazi occupation, but railway station apprentice Milos has more important things to worry about.  Losing his virginity, for example.  CLOSELY WATCHED TRAINS is a darkly sweet and humorous coming-of-age story supported by an eccentric cast of characters.  There’s the pigeon-obsessed stationmaster, and the suave dispatcher who manages to make rubber stamps sexy.  Then there’s Milos, a truly lovable protagonist despite his apathy toward anything resembling work and the blind eye he turns on the world.  His sexual journey makes for a film that’s both fun and touching.
